Is it time to Spring clean your estate plan?

As the long cold winter draws to a close and Spring rolls around again, take this time to review your Will.

Two thirds of people across the United Kingdom don’t have a valid Will in place. If you do have a Will in place, when was the last time you reviewed this?

If you have written a Will already, Gov.uk recommends reviewing your Will every five years and after any major life change. Did you know for example that getting married will cancel any Will you made before.

Ask yourself key questions such as are individuals named as guardians for your children still the right choice? Regularly review if your estate has substantially changed in value or if your Will refers to items or gifts which you no longer have in your possession.

If you find some changes in circumstances that need to be addressed. Graham Colley Will and Probate Solicitor is on hand to assist in implementing these changes – making a new Will, this will in turn revoke any previous Wills. Writing a Will with our Kent creates a clear statement of your last wishes – letting you decide what happens to your assets (money, property and possessions) after death.

Putting a lasting power of attorney in place, many see as a sensible step to take, a legal document that allows you to appoint one or more people to help you make decisions or to make decisions on your behalf should you have an accident, illness or long-term deterioration that affects your mental capacity and ability to make your own decisions. There are now over 3.1 million LPAs registered with the Office of the Public Guardian and this number continues to grow daily.

Graham Colley has 40 years experience as a Will and Probate Solicitor in Kent. Both Graham and his experienced team keep up to date with the current estate planning guidance and are able to conduct a full review of your personal affairs.
