We are all trying to help the people of the Ukraine in these terrible times.
Graham Colley, who is Gareth Jones’ great-nephew has been offered showings of the film, “Mr Jones”, starring James Norton, Vanessa Kirby and Peter Sarsgaard (Directed by Agnieszka Holland with screenplay by Andrea Chalupa) to help raise donations for #HelpUkraine Emergency Appeal organised by the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain.
The film tells the story of Gareth Jones a journalist from Wales who travels to the Soviet Union in 1933 and uncovers the truth about the Holodomor, the devastating famine in Ukraine in which millions died. He was vilified internationally and accused of lying.
Called their “Unsung Hero”, in 2008, he was posthumously awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit, one of their highest Honours, at a ceremony in Westminster Central Hall.
We have two objectives:
- To raise money for Ukraine relief;
- To raise awareness of Holodomor (https://www.augb.co.uk/holodomor-1932-33.php) .
Can you help us?
We are looking for a venue from mid April-early May for up to 4 hours from 6.30-10.30pm (access to a bar) to have a fund-raising screening. We would really appreciate you to donate a room for the screening, if this is not possible, then a reduced rate.
We hope have a video link with the Ukrainian screen writer who is in America and the director who is in Poland and, work permitting, James Norton in person to introduce the film which was released in 2019.
Ninety years after the Holodomor tragedy, Ukrainians are once again fighting for their survival. I hope you will help us do our bit.
Please contact us if you can donate a venue in Kent or South London region. Or would like to help with our fundraising efforts in any way.
